Initially beginning his career in product design, Layne transitioned into marketing and advertising as a regional art director in Columbus. To focus more on the disciplines of brand strategy and environmental design, he made the move to Miller/Zell in Atlanta becoming Senior Designer and Project Manager on projects for Sherwin-Williams, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Sears and Texaco.

After relocating to Southern California, Layne formed his own full-service design group gaining projects from regional businesses, as well as major assignments for global brands Century 21, Epson, GTE, Pepsi and Heinz Foods. Richard Layne has worked on national campaigns with ad firms Leo Burnett, Cambell-Mithun, FCB and McCann, and today works with agencies, architects, developers and in-house departments as a consultant, designer and producer.
